Lesson #5

Being led by the spirit of God is one of the most important things you can do!  Sometimes your flesh tries to get in the way of you walking in the spirit.  Your flesh tries to get you walk in line with your emotions rather than by the spirit.

Being led by the spirit of god means that when the spirit of God speaks to you it will always be in line with the word of God.  God and his word are one!   That’s why when you give counsel you don’t give them your opinion you counsel them in line with the word of God.

Most people do not really want to be led by the spirit of God because they really just want to do what they want to do.  There are other voices. The enemy will try to come at you to deceive you but you must compare it with the word.  It must bear witness with the word always!

1 Corinthians 14:10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.

We must always examine the voices of the world in the light of the word of God.  We are not to accept anything without first examining it in the light of the word.

The devil is constantly trying to get you to look at your emotions and outward pressure/circumstance to be the basis of leadership and direction in your life.

The enemy tries to keep you from hearing clear by hitting your emotions.  People stumble and fall only to get up and make the same mistakes again.  The enemy is nervous about you being led by the spirit of god and uses deception to try to keep us walking down the same wrong road.  If you yield to the Holy Spirit’s inner witness in your spirit man you can combat the devil’s program of looking at your emotions or outward circumstances as a basis for God’s leadership and direction in your life.

When you feel like giving up and giving in it is your spirit that is the part of you that refuses to do so!  The part that reacts to the pressure is your emotions or the soulish realm.  The key is to learn how to operate out to the part of you that would not give up.  Your spirit side.

If you are going to allow the Holy Spirit to take you into the next step of the born again experience then you must allow the holy spirit to develop your character to such an extent that the still quiet voice of your inner man is louder and stronger than the turmoil and pressure; and stronger than the temptation of sin.

*  Sin will try to weave you into the pressure whereas the still small voice will guide you into victory.

*  The holy spirit’s first goal is to lead you out of a walk based on your flesh and dominated by your emotions, to mature you beyond being carnal.   So you can know how to discern his voice.

It is very important to learn to differentiate between the emotional realm of the soul and the stabilizing quality of the born again human spirit because the quicker you learn how to be led by the inner witness, the faster you will step out of the bondage of your flesh and walk in liberty and maturity.

It is not the INNER MAN of the Christian that wants to do wrong, it is the OUTWARD MAN.  Ask yourself, is that my flesh or is that my spirit?  If its leading you to death, sin, then NO!   The outward man has a pull from this world.

You know that your spirit will not tell you something wrong because the holy spirit has the nature of God, the life of God, the love of God and the spirit of God

Acts 27:9-10    Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them, 10 And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

Paul said he perceived (did not say he had a revelation, by the inward witness) it by the inward witness, not physically, but in his spirit he had a witness.   Was it a big spiritual thing, no, he just picked it up.  In his spirit he had a witness.

Acts 13:1-2   Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.  2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

We can see here the Holy Spirit speaks as they ministered to the Lord in fasting and prayer.

*  As you minister to the lord the holy spirit will lead you.
